Microsoft Windows 8
Category: Abandoned Windows systems- client releases
Windows 8 introduces significant changes, primarily focused on improving the user experience of mobile devices such as tablets to compete with other mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS from Apple. Microsoft has also changed the Windows logo to be compatible with the new graphic environment.

The main system interface is Modern UI (formerly known as Metro) with a completely new application subsystem called AppX. Programs for the Modern UI can be purchased in the newly created Windows Store like the Mac App Store, Google Play or Ubuntu Software Center. The desktop mode known from previous versions of Windows is a separate application. The Start Menu has been replaced by the Start screen with tiled programs attached. Like the Start Menu in Windows 7, the Start screen in Windows 8 and Windows RT focuses all the important information in one place. In the final version of this system the transparency effect of Aero interface has been removed. The system supports synchronization of some applications and settings between different devices connected to the same Microsoft account.

In Windows, DFSR (Distributed File System Replication) has been improved, its kernel has been rebuilt, more tasks have been adjusted, cluster support and unilateral replication options have been added. Microsoft has changed the access to files in branches of companies.

Additionally, Windows 8 is adapted to use new technologies such as USB 3.0, Near Field Communication (NFC) and cloud computing. The reduced version of the system called RT supports ARM processors. The system includes new security features such as built-in antivirus software, a new installation process optimized for digital distribution, and support for UEFI, which allows operating systems to be digitally signed to prevent malware that could change the boot program).
